With 115 congregations from the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) participating, Good Shepherd Sunday 2026 raised more than $115,000 to support LSSI programs serving over 62,000 people across the state.
Of all participating congregations, 32 welcomed LSSI guest speakers and preachers who shared firsthand stories illustrating the transformative impact of LSSI’s work.
Representatives from foster care, behavioral health services, prevention services, and intellectual and developmental disabilities programs also shared powerful stories and inspirational examples of LSSI’s mission in action.
Good Shepherd Sunday offers congregations a meaningful opportunity to see how their partnership with LSSI impacts the lives of their neighbors facing some of life’s greatest challenges.
Donations received this year helped fund critical renovations at group homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including new windows, flooring, and kitchen improvements.
“Through prayers and support, congregations are choosing to share our Good Shepherd’s care with some of our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Rev. Kelly
Nieman Anderson, Manager of Church and Community Engagement, who coordinates the event. “Generous donors ensure that LSSI staff and programs have the resources needed to keep sharing our Good Shepherd’s abundant life for years to come.”
Congregations interested in strengthening their connection with LSSI throughout the year can participate in LSSI Sundays, which may be held on any Sunday outside the Easter season. These events provide opportunities to learn more about LSSI’s ministry and the collective impact of church partnerships across Illinois. Learn more at LSSI.org/Sunday.
