LSSI’s Basic Needs Fund

The children, adults, seniors, and families LSSI serves often struggle to access necessities such as a place to sleep, food, medication costs, and other basic needs that greatly impact their health. For foster parents, “basic needs” include the items required to welcome a child into their home, often on short notice, such as car seats, booster seats, a crib, and clothing. Offering help for basic needs is one of the vital ways LSSI case managers work with our foster families.

LSSI helps clients meet these needs through the basic needs fund. Your gift will provide a warm coat for a child, groceries for a family, medication cost assistance for a senior, or a safe place to stay for an unhoused client.

Supplies for Foster Parents

“Some children come into foster care with no extra clothes at all. Others have clothes that no longer fit or are full of bedbugs. Basic needs funding is all about helping both the foster family and the children adjust to a major transition in their lives.” – LSSI foster care specialist

Groceries

When you cannot afford food for yourself or your family, it only makes the other life challenges you are facing more difficult. Many of our clients have limited incomes, and after paying other living expenses, there is often little leftover to afford groceries. With concern over SNAP benefits availability for clients, this need has greatly increased.

Rent Assistance

Your gift today helps ensure that someone receiving LSSI services has a safe place to sleep. This includes LSSI’s unhoused clients, or those who are struggling to make ends meet while they receive services and seek stability in their lives in other ways.

Area of Greatest Need

Your gift allows an LSSI staff person to respond when they notice needs such as a child who does not have a warm coat, a senior who cannot afford both groceries and medication costs, or a family struggling to pay for diapers.
