Winter can be a difficult season for maintaining your mental health, it can be especially difficult for those already struggling. There are, however, are some practical ways to keep yourself in a good mental state. Here are a few you can try implementing for yourself.
- Soak up the sun. Even if it’s only out for a little each day plan to get outside and talk a walk.
- Keep connecting with family and friends. If they are not an option seek out a support group.
- Try to eat a balanced diet with an emphasis on fruits and veggies.
- Try to get 8 hours of sleep.
- Add exercise to your winter routine. As little as 30 minutes makes your brain release “happy hormones.”
- Try meditation or taking quiet time for yourself to reflect.
It’s important to recognize that if you are struggling with your mental health this winter it may not be something you can solve on your own. Seeking professional help is always an option.
