LSSI Honors True Friends Rev. Mark & Kathy Helge

At a virtual event broadcast on Oct. 10, 2020, LSSI President and CEO Mark Stutrud presented the Rev. Mark and Kathy Helge with the True Friend Award, which honors "significant contributions to the human community."

"In addition to the True Friend Award, you might also say this is a lifetime giving award, as Mark can remember as a child his Lutheran Sunday School Class collecting pennies to send to Nachusa Lutheran Home!" said Stutrud in presenting the Helges with the award. "Their generosity continues to LSSI today."

The Helges were recognized not only for their support of LSSI's strategic initiative for Whole-Person Care, but also their support of a variety of other nonprofit organizations.

"One does not have to be of great wealth to be a blessing to others," said Kathy Helge in accepting the award. "May you know first-hand the opportunities that LSSI provides for us to love others as we are called to do."

"We are thankful for this award," added Rev. Mark Helge. "LSSI has served Illinois in good times and bad. LSSI recognizes that the heart of ministry is the heart of Jesus Christ himself. We are committed to being the living word embodied in our work."

The event raised over $190,000 for Children's Community Services at LSSI. To watch videos and view photos from the virtual event, visit LSSI.org/TrueFriend.
