Good Shepherd Sunday is May 3

[Jesus said] “My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

On Good Shepherd Sunday, many congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) across the state celebrate their shared social ministry with Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI).

Please plan now to celebrate with LSSI during the 2020 Easter season, on May 3 or any other Sunday in May.

This year, gifts to LSSI will support our Storybook Project, a Prisoner and Family Ministry program where volunteers record incarcerated parents’ voices as they read a book to their children, bridging an emotional gap between parents and children who are separated for long periods.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, gifts up to $5,000 for each of the three ELCA synods will be matched dollar for dollar! Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to double the impact of your gifts to support the work of LSSI.

We have offering envelopes available if you would like to join other congregations that are mailing them out to members. For envelopes or other information, please email

Just as God sees each person in their entirety, LSSI seeks to provide Whole Person Care to those receiving our services. The faithfulness of congregations like yours is critically important in this work.
