What is Luther Center?
Luther Center offers affordable apartments for seniors 62+ and disabled adults 18+ and assisted living apartments. We offer affordable rent options, as well as financial assistance packages through state and federal government programs. Luther Center is a program of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI).
Where is Luther Center located?
Luther Center is located at 111 W. State Street, Rockford. In the heart of downtown, along the Rock River, there is convenient access to local restaurants, shopping, and medical centers. Luther Center residents enjoy easy accessibility to sporting events and entertainment at the BMO Harris Center, shows at the historic and recently renovated Coronado Performing Arts Center, and educational/entertainment opportunities at the Rockford Public Library.
Who can live at Luther Center?
We provide apartment-style living for adults 62+ and persons who are disabled aged 18+ who require features of our accessible units. Our assisted living units offer personal care assistance and housekeeping services to individuals 60+. Are any apartments available now?
Yes. The application process generally requires 3-4 weeks to complete for apartment-style living and 4-6 weeks for assisted living. There is no application fee. Contact us for questions and more information.
What is the size of the apartments?
Our 1 bedroom apartments are approximately 535 square feet and the 2 bedroom apartments are approximately 675 square feet.
Is there a charge for utilities?
Residents of Luther Center pay their own electric, telephone and cable costs.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, we welcome trained pets, but a weight limit of 30 pounds is enforced, with only 1 pet with fur allowed per apartment.
Is smoking allowed?
No. Luther Center is a smoke-free facility. There is 1 designated smoking area on the property located outside for residents who smoke.
Do I have to be a Lutheran to live a Luther Center?
No. We are an equal housing opportunity provider, as are all programs of LSSI.
What social activities are at Luther Center?
We provide thoughtfully planned, weekly social activities and regularly scheduled community outings with transportation for residents. Throughout the week, residents are able to participate in a wide range of interesting programs and events.
Is parking available?
Yes. Residents who own cars have a parking space available on-site. A limited number of covered parking spaces are available for a small monthly fee. Convenient public parking is also available for visiting family and friends in several adjacent lots.
Is public transportation available?
Bus transportation is provided for regularly scheduled trips and limited medical appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. Rockford city buses make regular stops in front of Luther Center. The main Rockford Mass Transit hub is located two blocks from Luther Center.
