Lifebook Training
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) has developed innovative Lifebook teaching tools to help agencies, therapists, social workers and child welfare professionals, as well as foster and adoptive parents, use Lifebooks with children.
- Lifebook DVD -- "Putting the Pieces Together: Lifebook Work with Children"
- A documentary-style presentation that uses interviews with foster parents, adoptive parents, youth and child welfare professionals to illustrate how to use Lifebooks with children
- Developed in conjunction with Dr. Jeanne Howard of the Center for Adoption Studies at Illinois State University
- Filmed by Rhondal McKinney of the Rural Documentary Collection, Illinois State University.
- Foster/Adoptive Parent Curriculum
- This three-hour training curriculum intersperses segments of the DVD with mini-lectures, activities and discussions to help foster/adoptive parents understand the benefits of Lifebooks for children and learn practical "how-to's."
- Includes a section on the impact of trauma on children and how Lifebooks help children heal.
- Staff Curriculum
- The staff training is also designed to accompany the DVD and uses some of the same material and activities as the parent curriculum, but goes into more detail, incorporates more skill-building and includes further exploration of the theories that inform Lifebook work.
