Celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday!

Celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday!

The fourth Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday, a day to reflect on the question, "How does the church care for people in need in our community?" On this day, many congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) across the state celebrate their shared social ministry with Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI).

LSSI has been caring for God's lambs and sheep for 146 years, ever since it opened its first orphanage on Illinois' western prairie. Today, LSSI serves nearly 100,000 people — of all ages, races, incomes and religions — helping them to address important needs and make essential changes in their lives.

Jesus the Good Shepherd cared for his sheep by feeding them, healing them and reconciling them to themselves, their families and their communities. Through LSSI and the churches that support this ministry — the love of Jesus continues to transform the lives of people in need. Each day, congregations help LSSI advance our shared mission of bringing "healing, justice and wholeness to people and communities."

If your church would like to celebrate your social ministry on Good Shepherd Sunday  with a visit and presentation from an LSSI staff person, please contact Johanna Olson at Johanna.Olson@LSSI.org or call 847/390-1414. And please remember, you can celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday on an alternate date of your choice.
