Services for Youth on Probation
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) provides services for youth on probation, including mentoring, advocacy, counseling and case management. The goal is to divert youth from further court involvement or from placement in a locked facility. Referrals come from the court or probation departments.
- Unified Delinquency Intervention Services (UDIS) are offered for youth referred from the court system who are at-risk for confinement in the Illinois corrections system. The staff offers mentoring, advocacy, counseling and case management services. Services are available for youth from Lee and Whiteside Counties.
- Youth Diversion Program provides services for youth 10-17 who are on probation. The purpose of the program is to divert youth from further court action and to assist them in a successful discharge from probationary status. LSSI counselors work closely with the individual and his or her family to ensure that the youth is attending school, work, probation meetings, etc. Youth served are from Carroll, Ogle and Whiteside Counties.
- Intensive Outpatient Services is located on LSSI’s Nachusa campus. It provides intensive group and individual therapy for youth referred by probation departments. Treatment is focused on self-esteem, family history, communication and social skills, responsibility, and grief and loss issues. Groups meet two or three times a week. The program serves youth from Carroll, LaSalle, Lee, Ogle and Whiteside Counties. Youth from areas in the surrounding counties may also be served by the program if distance allows regular attendance.
- Alternatives to Detainment is also located at the Nachusa Lutheran Home. It offers an array of placement and intervention services in an unlocked treatment facility for youth between the ages of 12-17. The residential program includes a four-month intervention program that provides rehabilitative services to the client and his/her family with a goal of reunification. The probation departments from northern Illinois counties can make referrals to the program.
