Senior Protective Services

LSSI is there to provide assistance for older adults experiencing abuse. Elder abuse can come in the form of financial exploitation, or physical, sexual and emotional abuse, or neglect.

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is designated by the Illinois Department on Aging as the elder abuse, neglect and exploitation (ANE) program for Carroll, Lee, Ogle and Whiteside Counties in northwest Illinois.

LSSI takes phone calls from mandated reporters and other individuals who suspect that an older adult is the victim of: physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse; confinement; passive neglect; willful deprivation or financial exploitation. A trained and certified elder abuse caseworker investigates and provides intervention, education and prevention services.

Criteria for an elder abuse report:

  • Person is 60 years old or older
  • The alleged abuser exists
  • Abuse occurs in a domestic setting
  • Allegations constitute ANE, as defined by the Illinois Department on Aging definitions
