Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) provides out-patient treatment programs and services to help individuals with substance abuse problems. These services are available at sites in Chicago, Dixon, Elgin, Schaumburg and Sterling.

LSSI offers individual, group and family counseling services for those affected by substance abuse. The agency also offers DUI risk education at all sites except Elgin, and DUI evaluation at the Sterling and Dixon sites. The Schaumburg office offers assessments and treatment services for Spanish-speaking clients on an out-patient basis. LSSI’s services are licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.

LSSI also offers Project SAFE, a comprehensive substance abuse treatment program for mothers with children. This program, located in Chicago, offers counseling, group therapy, parenting classes and case management services. Clients are most often referred to the program by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Approximately half of the women in the program have lost custody of their children. Child care is available on the premises for those mothers who have custody of their children.

LSSI works in financial partnership with the federal government, the state of Illinois, townships and United Ways to offer services to persons who are economically disadvantaged. Because of the demand for services, some LSSI programs have waiting lists. Funding is available for all whose incomes meet DASA (Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse) eligibility requirements, which are based on the federal poverty guidelines.
