Affordable Housing for Seniors and Disabled Persons
To improve the lives of individuals and to strengthen communities, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) offers housing opportunities for persons 62 years of age or older, and for individuals who are disabled. The majority of buildings owned and/or managed by LSSI are newly designed and provide comfortable, safe and affordable living in a community environment. Each building is unique and has its own niche in the community where it is located. LSSI currently has 18 affordable housing developments statewide. Please refer to each housing site for a listing/description of eligibility requirements.
- Location – LSSI offers housing opportunities in Aurora, Batavia, Chicago, Danville, Decatur, DeKalb, Dolton, Elmwood Park, Freeport, Joliet, Lansing, Rochelle, Rockford and Wilmette.
- Cost – Rent is generally based on 30 percent of a resident’s monthly income (Social Security, SSI, pension-wages/salary, interest on assets, etc.). However, a resident’s expenses (health insurance costs, pharmacy bills and medical expenses) are also taken into consideration when determining rental fees.
- Additional services – LSSI’s Housing offers its residents other services that help them maintain their independence and lifestyle.
