Respite Care for Caregivers
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) offers respite support to caregivers of seniors who need time off from their caregiving responsibilities.
Sometimes, caregivers just need some time to themselves so they can re-energize. Or they may want to join their families on a vacation but don't know how they can do so while caring for their loved ones.
For short-term stays, respite services are available at P.A. Peterson Center for Health in Rockford and St. Matthew Center for Health in Park Ridge.
In addition, Legacy Corps, also a program of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI), provides volunteers who give respite support for caregivers of seniors or other loved ones who need ongoing attention. Legacy Corps members do not provide any medical or therapeutic services or tasks. They just provide time off for caregivers to run errands, see to other responsibilities or just relax. LSSI offers respite services in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and McHenry Counties.
Legacy Corps is funded by AmeriCorps, a federally funded program. There are only 11 Legacy Corps programs in the United States, and LSSI’s program is the only one in Illinois.
